Friday December 14, 2012 will be a day that I will never forget. It was the day of the 2012 Holiday Book Drive for the Tony Matthews Boys and Girls Club. Every year, Tamika Newhouse and I host our own individual holiday drives, but this was the first time that we decided to join forces. The collaboration tuned out to be a success! We brought in over 100 snack bags for the children, 50 pairs of pajamas, and 550 children and teen books. We also collected a total of 330 books that we donated to the the Center of Children and Young Adults, a homeless shelter also located in the city of Marietta.
As the children came in we passed out our little tokens of appreciation and sang Christmas carols. Teen author Stone Erickson read to them, and there was even a special question and answer session where the kids had an opportunity to ask us questions on what do we do; and how can they reach their dreams and goals. Everyone was having so much fun, and was disappointed once the director of the center came and informed us that the time was near to wrap it up.
We would like to give a special thank you to everyone that donated, but we would like to give a special thank you to our sponsors: G Street Chronicles, Just Stuff Thrift Store, I Am T-Shirts, and Enchanted PR. Without everyone coming together, we would have not have had such a successful event. To find out more about the Tony Matthews Boys and Girls Club check out http://www.bgcma.org/club/matthews.
